A message to myself.

This wasn't an image I found but rather a picture I took, and then incorporated type within the photo.  This was a message I made to myself as a wallpaper for my phone as a reminder to stay in focus. The font is the infamous Courier New.  I actually never had the idea of incorporating typography with my photos until after this class. I hope you all enjoy it and feel free to use it as a message to yourselves as well.

Typographic Portrait (9/23/10)

This is one of the best displays of using typography in a portrait in my opinion.  Not only are there different words, but there is a dramatic change in also the value of the text color along with the weight.  This one may be altered a little more than just plain black and white, but overall I feel the little added effects play a big difference and you can still refer the final product as a portrait made out of type.

This image isn't so much one I've found as it is one I've made.  This is a business card design I've made for my freelace business.  The font is Helvetica Neue 25 Ultralight. I've chosen to use this font because it is a very formal and sophisticated type design with a modern feel.  The final print comes out very clean and straight on cards and the thin design of the font compliments the linear art I've added as a fade to the background.

USA Logo (Blog Update)

As I was watching TV I happened to start noticing type in many things.  This one really caught my eye like it never had before.  I knew the effect it gave but I never really looked at the fundamentals behind it.  This is the logo for channel USA, and this logo displays not only a creative use of type, but an effective way of using negative space and positive space.  I believe this font is Avant Garde Bold, due to the perfect circle created by the a, I know that's what avant garde in known for.

Bodoni Font Research

ITC Bodoni Serif is a revived typeface originally created by Giambattista Bodoni.  Bodoni's typeface was from the inspiration of the Baskerville design, but with a sharper outcome. Bodoni's careers included engraving, publishing, and typography.  Bodoni came from a printmaking background, as did his ancestry.  While working as an apprentice for Duke Ferdinand to develop a printing house, he impressed his superiors with his eagerness and willingness to study and learn typefaces and ancient languages.  This showing of his appreciation for his career in type gave him allowance to put his name on the books he developed. The Bodoni Museum opened in Parma, Italy in 1963 for the artist.

Type'd Goods?

I never really stopped to realize how much type affected the graphic design world in more ways than one.  I found this really interesting to see designers  who own their own clothing company, Turn Nocturnal,  use their knowledge of graphic type faces to create interesting t shirt graphics that suit the graphic design trend.  You might see me with that sans serif or huge type tee very soon.
